Missions

Philosophy and Objectives (Developed in 1998)

Wanting to be doers, not just hearers, of the Word, we at the Church in Clarendon determined in 1998 to be active witnesses both at home and in “all the world.”

We decided to not only support with our finances, but to support with our gifts and talents, efforts made toward the spreading of the Gospel. We targeted Mexico and Central America because we had personal, reliable missionary connections, and because travel to these countries was very feasible.

Although there are many types of short-term missions with varying focuses, we decided that our primary objectives would be:

  • To bring support, finances and aid to those missionaries already established on the field.
  • To share the Gospel in an evangelical outreach, particularly aimed toward children.
  • To bring physical support and labor to whatever construction projects were deemed necessary by the field workers.
  • To share Christ’s love with both missionary staff and children in whatever ways of service were beneficial.
  • To give the Church an awareness of the needs beyond itself: that by going on a short-term trip, many would spread the awareness of the world at large.

God’s Primary Purpose - For men to know (personal intimacy) Christ.

  • 1 Timothy 2:3-4, “This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth”.
  • John 8:32, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
  • John 14:6, “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”.
  • Ephesians 4:11-13, “It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ”.

God’s Commission.

  • Matthew 28:18-20, “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
  • Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
